Club GeoPremiere at Auberge Du Lac Morency

Club GeoPremiere at Auberge Du Lac Morency, is in the mountains of Quebec. In all of my travels, I have for some reason never been to Canada. Even when I went to Niagara Falls, I did not go to the other side and visit Canada. I am excited about this visit.

Day One Travel & Arrival

I decided to fly to the area and then take a rental car to the resort. I do not know why, maybe it is because of the location, but I am thinking about the Overlook Hotel the entire way to the resort. When you get to the resort, you will think I am crazy because this amazing resort looks nothing like that. I think it was the winding road and the amazing lake location in the mountains that had my mind wandering.

I flew from Norfolk, VA to the nearby Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. From the Airport to the resort, the drive time in good weather is about 1 hour. As I drive to the resort, even what should be a main road is still just a 2-lane road with just 1-lane in each direction. Closer to the resort, the roads look almost like dirt roads. I am certain with the snow in the area and harsh winters, it must be impossible to have roads that look freshly paved.

As you near the resort, you see many buildings with the resort red metal roofs ahead of you and all around the area. You will also see a nice new wood sign marking the way toward the main resort. The resort itself sits on the lake and has a beautiful view. Near the main building, you also find the pool and tennis courts.

The resort offers both 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom chalets. I have a 1-bedroom booked for the weekend. The room has a full kitchen and all the expected amenities. I was also happy to find a wood fireplace. That I, not something you still get often at any resort.

After checking in, I wanted to walk around the resort. I am here in the summer, so a good deal of the attraction for me is the natural setting and the lake.

Once I had the lay of the land and had an idea for my activities for tomorrow, I made my move to the restaurant. The nightly or dinner menu looked too good to pass up.

Day Two Enjoying the Lake

Summer here is the lake and the Winter Wonderland is all about the snow with Dog Sled Rides and Ice Fishing on the lake. Since it is summer, I was ready to get on a boat and paddle about on the lake. I chose a kayak for my first tour out on the lake. I spent about 2 hours just horsing around and enjoying the water here.

Spa Time

Next, I had an appointment at the SPA. I scheduled a 90-minute massage and then time in the SPA area with the hot tubs and a nice relaxing lake setting afterward. It is hard to go wrong with a massage but I have had a few that were not great over the years. This was a good massage in a nice setting. Then my time in the hot tubs was great as well.
If you enjoy massage make sure you book early for one on your trip. You may even want to try reflexology if you have not before as well. That can release a great deal of stress and worry from the body.

Skiing

When you are visiting a resort like this, it is impossible to not at least check out the snow skiing nearby even in the summer. Just in case you want to come back in the winter or refer a friend. Here nearby Mont Habitant has a grand reputation and online rating. The lit nighttime runs here look amazing. The snow runs here look amazing.

The area also boasts the Sommet Saint-Sauveur which offers a full amusement park during the summer. I went to visit and ride the Alpine Coaster, then play some mini-golf.

It was getting later in the day and I wanted to head to the nearest location for some food and items for my chalet kitchen.

Getting Supplies

The nearby Marché Tradition St-Hippolyte inc. is the local grocery, and it is located right next to the liquor store. I decided to get something to make dinner for myself tonight and then breakfast the next few mornings. The food available here is great but there are limited choices.

Day Three Traveling the Region

Getting out to see more of this remote area was a great opportunity. In the summer, it is much easier to get around since a car in the summer is faster than a snowmobile or dogsled team in winter. I headed back towards Montreal and wanted to see some of the cities since I have not been this far north before. I started with a tour of the Biodome. At the Biodome, you can see and experience 5 unique ecosystems. Part of my mind wonders if, during the winter months, the locals come to the Biodome as an escape from the cold winter months in the tropical area of the dome.

Museums

Montreal also has several amazing museums. I went towards the Fine Arts Museum first. They have an interesting pricing model to encourage younger people to visit and appreciate art. The pricing is reduced up until age 31, which I have never seen at other museums before.

Next, I journeyed to the Cosmodome. I was going to view the museum of natural history but I heard someone talking about the Cosmodrome, so here I am.

This is part presentation, part virtual mission, and experience rolled into one. It is a neat combination and I think families will enjoy taking the kids here to get them more interested in science, space travel, and the world of possibilities.

You have options here but most people do the exhibition and one mission to start on their first trip. Then, if the family likes it, they come back and do more missions. The 4D experience is a nice add-on, as well as the simulation trainers too.

After a full day of museums and adventures, it was time to drive back to the resort. My guess is in wintertime no one would dive back into the city. They would be too busy playing in the snow one way or another.

If you want a great location that is isolated yet close to ski resorts or a wonderful lake, this may be your ideal vacation. Just make sure you book it through TZort.
