Fairfield Plantation

Fairfield Plantation

Fairfield Plantation is in the State of Georgia. A great place to travel to that has a slower pace and abundant charms. This resort is to the West of Atlanta and in an amazing part of the state, so I am looking forward to this trip. At the plantation, you will find golf, dining, tennis, water sports, and so much more. Let’s jump in on this amazing vacation experience together.

Sitting just west of Atlanta, Georgia is a hidden gem. Club Wyndham Villas at Fairfield is a resort that offers the feeling of a bed-and-breakfast, yet the charms and amenities of a larger resort. The community of Villa Rica, GA is refreshing. This was a town that hosted the first gold strike in the state of Georgia and is still known as the city of gold to this day.

Day One Travel and Arrival

The trip for me to the area was about a 10-hour drive. I started in the early morning hours with the goal to reach the resort right around check-in time. For many of my trips, I travel solo. If you have read about my vacations on the TZort site you will know this is true. On this trip, however, I was bringing a friend along. That makes those long car trips more bearable since you have someone to talk to and enjoy a meal with along the way on your trip.

This also likely means an extra stop or two at a rest stop, but that is a fine tradeoff for the company.

After the drive to Atlanta from my home in Virginia, the remaining hour or so of travel was easy. Just a trip around the beltway of Atlanta then on to the resort.

Arrival at the resort was easy and checking in was a breeze. Once you are settled, you are moving into your 1–2-bedroom villa. They also have a number of studio units. The studio units are about 400 sq ft and the villas start at over 1,000 sq ft and go up in size. All villas (including studios) offer a full kitchen with a stove/range, microwave, and refrigerator. This makes it nice to be able to prepare some meals in a unit for favorites, snacks, or just save during your vacation.

Anytime there are water sports available, I like having a washer and dryer in a unit at well and even these are provided in the room too.

After getting all the bags and feeling situated, I wanted to get a feel for the resort and space. Since I had a guest on this trip, that meant getting something to eat together at the site’s casual dinning and hitting the bar for at least a round or two of drinks. It is so nice to be able to have a bar on site and not have to worry about driving anywhere.

Everything here at the resort seems to flow with and along the lake. It just gives the entire resort a great feeling and flow. The casual dining and bar are together in a simple space that is comfortable and affordable. You can find the generous menu for the Fairfield Clubhouse online. The menu layout, and the overall look of the restaurant, remind me of a nice resort I used to go to with my family each year for a decade or more when I was younger. I hope many more families find the comfort here as meaningful as my family did for so many years.

Day Two at the
Resort

When you find a resort that offers so much, it is hard to leave the first day to go site seeing. You just want to settle in and enjoy the features of the resort. One of the fun things to do is to rent a pontoon boat and get out on the lake. I grew up spending much of my summers on the water. Before I was old enough to drive, I had access to a small boat and could fill up the gas and go anywhere I wanted to go. Even now when I get on a small boat of almost any size, it gives me a sense of freedom and makes me feel like a kid again.

Boat Rental

We went around the lake for about 2 hours in the morning, then we returned to the boat. It is a nice-sized lake and one that could draw your attention for many hours of fun on the water.

Golf or Mini Golf

This resort also offers golf and mini golf, as well as a putting green. I am still a simple guy who prefers mini golf to the real thing. Though within the last year, I started to play golf for the first time in my life. Since my guest on this trip was not a big golfer either, we chose to play some mini golf together on the small course on site. It was fun.

For some reason, mini-golf takes me back to about 12 in my mind as soon as I start playing. This was especially true of having a female friend with me. I felt like I was on an intermediate school date. Part of me expected a parent or even my older sister to pop up at any moment and say it was time to leave. Then I would kick myself for the ride home from the date that I had not snuck a kiss earlier in the night. Ah, my favorite road to go down, memory lane.

Seeing the
Surrounding Area

After mini golf, and our morning on the water, we finally felt like we should leave the area just to check things out around the resort. Maybe get some lunch in the area. On our way to lunch, we found a local winery and thought, “why not?” so we went in for a tasting. Little Vine Winery and Vineyard seemed to be a passion project for the couple that owned the place. One of those neat spots where you can really interact with the owner, and try the win they are so passionate about. I am a crazy person when it comes to blueberries. Here they have a blueberry wine they call Midnight Blue that I had to try, then I purchased a case. That is one plus about driving to your vacation spot. It does make taking things home easier.

After the winery, we found a local restaurant that is called Landmark Country Buffet. It had a nice family feeling and a simple but tasty menu. One thing that is amazing about this area of Georgia is how rural it feels just a little way from the Capital of the state. Each little area with a restaurant and shop or two seems far away from the others. Here you are likely to find more churches or gas stations than you are strip malls or shopping centers and that is a good thing for the area. It gives it a charm and small-town feeling that is unique.

After a great late lunch, we headed back to the resort for some more time down by the lake. I often feel a send of calm looking at a lake or the sea. There is something peaceful about water that stills my mind and gives me peace. Many years ago, now I studied and later trained others in hypnosis. An interesting thing that many people are not aware of with that study is that many feel it is possible to experience past lives with hypnosis. Now I am not going religious in this simple blog. I do not even know if truly such things exist or not. I can say that something seems to be there from the experiments and experiences I have shared through hypnosis. However, it may just be the mind filling in gaps with interesting experiences much like we do when we dream at night.

I mention this because my love of water is fairly intense. It is as if I may have spent another lifetime connected to the sea as a captain or even just a first mate on a boat. Here at the lake chatting with my friend about our shared love of water, we laughed and smiled at the idea. Then, since we felt like we had our little spot by the lake all to ourselves, I asked my friend if, I would see if she could be hypnotized.

The process is a simple one and most people can be, 80% or more of people are fairly responsive. You just listen to the voice of the person helping you and go on a bit of a guided mental journey. For her induction into the hypnotic state, we just talked about water and feeling at ease. The next thing she knew, she was in a deep hypnotic state. Basically, just very relaxed and looked almost asleep while sitting up on a bench we had found near the marina. A few minutes later, I woke her back up and asked how she felt, and she said she felt great. Most people report that they can remember most of their time under hypnosis. The vast majority of people say they feel in control during the process. A fun way to try it sometime on a vacation is to attend a hypnosis stage show. While there are none near this resort, there are a great many wonderfully relaxing spots all around the resort.

Day Three Just Relax

Again, waking up on a resort vacation is such a pleasure. Especially as an adult with a friend or loved one alone. I love kids and family, but sometimes having an adult vacation is a great experience as well. When you wake up, you feel more at ease because you do not feel you have to go into parenting mode. Or as an aunt or uncle, or grandparent, you do not feel instant responsibility for entertainment, and providing enjoyment when you get moving in the morning.

In essence, you can have less of a plan. One of the greatest things my grandfather on my mother’s side loved to do was just get in the car and go somewhere. Something unplanned but fun, without any schedule or particular goal in mind. I guess I have that same spirit of freewheeling fun. I just love to wing it on a vacation. My sister has 4 children and is the planner in the family. She is always focused on others’ happiness, which is wonderful, but it must put stress on her at a time when she should be relaxing. Here at Fairfield, everyone should relax and, when possible, go with the flow.

Sure schedule a tee time for golf, or something else as you must. But spend more time doing things naturally like enjoying live music, visiting the beach, or just hitting the pools for a swim. This resort has so much to offer that you can just stay at the resort and enjoy the amenities.

A Gold Mine

After the hours at the resort, we thought it would be fun to do the gold mine tour near town. The gold mine is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM-4 PM daily. Admission is only $5 and can include a train ride for an additional $5. A neat thing to try here is gold panning. Trying to find gold working the local soil with a pan is fun and relaxing as well.

If you have an interest in gold mining, this was a fun tour and a nice spot to learn more on vacation.

If you want a relaxing break, going to Fairfield Plantation is a great option. We enjoyed our trip and you will as well.
