Day One Travel & Arrival at Holiday Inn Club Vacations Piney Shores Resort

I am driving over from another resort and another lake today with Lake Palestine in my review and lake Conroe in front of me. It is about a 2-hour drive down from the Tyler, Texas area to just north of Houston.

Before heading to the resort itself, I headed to a local restaurant for some lunch. Mama Juanita’s has a good reputation, so I thought I would try it out for myself. I ordered a giant order of nachos and a few drinks. This let time slip by with ease.

I could have driven into Houston, but a lot of the restaurants in Houston are priced for the big city and for local oil money. After restaurants in and near Tyler, that would be sticker shock. The pricing is like your full bill at a restaurant in Tyler for an entrée in Houston. I am not against spending money, but maybe I just need a few days to adjust again.

After a great lunch and a few drinks, not too much to stay safe and legal, I headed to the resort.

My first impressions of the resort were that it was in a perfect location. They have 2 bedroom villas here that range from about 900sq ft to over 1,300 sq ft.

Great place for a ladies’ weekend!

We had 3 king villas for our ladies’ weekend! We enjoyed having our own bedrooms and bathrooms and the living spaces to visit. We felt quite spoiled!

Hidden Treasure

Overall, it was an amazing experience. The jet ports to the jacuzzi bath could be maintained better. The lighting on the property at night was poor. First-timers will probably get turned around unless they are near the front office.

Beautiful property

We were here for a family wedding! The property is beautiful and well-maintained. We enjoyed playing putt golf and the kids and adults enjoyed the game room!! Would definitely stay again if in the Houston area!!

Holiday at the Lake

Great view of the lake, and very nice clean rooms. A lot of things to do on the site. Should be promoted more at check-in. The grill next to the hotel has a great breakfast and great burgers for lunch.

Always Feels Like Home!

I absolutely love staying at Piney Shores Resort. I have been staying here since 2006 and it’s my family’s home away from home. Each time I return, I get a better experience. I hope to get to launch and enjoy our boat when we return for our vacation week next year. Thank you PSR staff!

This resort offers lake views, pools, and mini-golf. There is also access to local stables. A neat local zoo, and a short drive to Nasa’s Houston location and all it has to offer fans of Space Travel.

Day Two Visiting the Zoo

7 Acre Wood offers a great deal all in the form of a small, just over 7-acre zoo that is fun for visitors. This location is really about the kids. Without the kids, I just talked to the owners early in the day before they got busy and spent some time with the animals. It was neat hearing what they do to care for the animals.

It would be a great location for a birthday for kids, or just a short visit if you have younger children.

After sticking my head in at the zoo, I headed towards the Gualala HARRY’s Bar & Grill again. Harry’s is my first name, so I have an unwritten rule to check out places named after me. This is a great location and offers live music 4 nights a week. For lunch, I had their special, which was a great burger and fixings.

After lunch I went to the lake and Lake View Marina to see about renting a boat. 2 hour’s rental of the pontoon boats was fairly affordable for a group, but a little pricy for just me. I think for 2 hours it was $240 but considering fuel prices now, that is understandable. The lake here is great and the people are very nice to work with. Sometimes rental things can be a pain. They focused on making it easy, which was nice.

How Much Does it Cost to Visit Space Center Houston?

Space Center Houston is a science museum located in Clear Lake City, Texas.

The admission fee includes access to over 100 hands-on exhibits, live animals, planetarium shows, and much more.

Are there different ticket types and experiences at the Space Center?

The standard ticket is $60. This allows access to all the exhibits and attractions at the Space Center. You also receive a souvenir photo taken during your tour.

Lunch with an Astronaut Experience costs $150 per person. You get lunch with an astronaut who gives a short presentation about space travel. Afterward, you go on a guided tour of the facility.

Level 9 Tour costs $250 per person. This option includes a full day of activities. You start off with a breakfast meeting with astronauts. Then you get to take part in a variety of hands-on activities. You also get to meet some of the engineers behind the technology used at the center. Finally, you get to watch a movie about space exploration.

After paying $240 for a boat for 2 hours, I could not turn down the level 9 experience. So, I woke up early and got on the road to get to breakfast in time. I was one of the older folks there. Maybe people dream less than years pass by. It was a full day, but a good day. I would have called in a favor to do this if I had to, but I booked this experience ahead of time when I saw this online after my last trip to Galveston.

Now a mature teen might love this experience, and young adults with a passion for space travel and aeronautics will certainly enjoy the experience. This was more of a behind-the-scenes experience than I had with connections at Nasa’s Hampton facilities. The behind-the-scenes chats with engineers and seeing their passion were worth the entire trip.

Enjoy your stay at the resort for the best stay close enough to Nasa but yet a world away at this resort. Book through Tzort.
