Day One Travel & Arrival

A trip to the Tahoe area for me starts with a flight. For most in the USA, it will be the same. When you land, you can already feel the altitude in your chest. It is not bad at 6,000ft but the higher you go, the more you will notice the air pressure and the lower levels of oxygen. If you have not been to this area before and you hear me talking about Tahoe, but the resort is at 2001 Foothill Road Genoa, NV 089411. The Reno / Tahoe Airport is less than 1 hour away and just 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe. If you love lakes and mountains, this is the location for you. If you love to ski this is also the place for you. My arrival at the resort came fast, and I was impressed with what I found an on check in. My 1 bedroom villa was great with a full kitchen and the nice size bath. It also has a garden tub and a separate water closet. You also find the patio or balcony with a few chairs and a little table.

Recent Reviews

Would go again, my stay was very relaxing, and I enjoyed my surrounding area. Though I wanted to stay in and enjoy my stay with not having to go anywhere. Just two days of rest and relaxation. This destination hotel is great. The rooms are nice and cozy and the overall property is well-maintained. But what makes this place truly special is its very wonderful and caring staff and its proximity to the historic town of Genoa. You can’t go wrong staying at David Walley’s resort.

Wish we had stayed longer

We’d come again. It was a lovely experience. The place was close to the photography places we go. The hotel was comfortable and quiet. The view was very serene.

Day Two Geothermal Pools and Tubs

Today I wanted to spend some time just relaxing in the local hot pools and tubs. There is a fee for access to these, but if you need to relax, it is worth it. At $55, you get all-day access and that is about what you might pay for an hour massage or an hour in a float tub if you have visited those before. This area is open 7AM-10PM most days. The regular pools on site are open from Memorial Day until Labor Day and are included in your stay. The pools are also open 7 AM-10 PM daily. After hours in the hot pools and spas, I was drained of energy but in the best way. I headed back to my room for a shower, then a nap. My intention was to wake up and go out for dinner. I found Café Fiore online and arranged to meet my niece there for dinner. She lives in the area and works as a ski instructor in winter and a scuba instructor in the summer months. The prices here are high but reflect the restaurant’s popularity. I wanted to spoil my niece because she works hard but does not earn a fortune. She does so what she loves for a living and I am so proud of her for that. We had a great dinner and a good time laughing together. Tomorrow, she volunteered to show her uncle around Tahoe. She has lived here for several years, so I jumped at the chance to see her Tahoe and spend the day with her.

Day Three Touring Local Style

Going around an area with a local is always a great thing to do. When you have the chance to do so, take advantage of that friend or loved one’s input. First thing, we went to the dive center that she works with. Not to dive, but to meet who was working and put a face to names. They are a great group of people and if you want to go diving certainly book with them for a great experience. Diving here is nice but cold, so you will need to rent a wet suit. I am scuba certified but I think the certificate was etched in stone (it was a long time ago) so I should recertify on a real dive. Next we went to Emerald Bay State Park to see mother nature at her best. This is a park that is about hiking and camping. We were here to hike to one vista that she wanted to show me. It was a bit of a haul, but the view was worth it. In the area, there are several really nice beaches. Next, we went to see the ski resort where she works. It was summer, so skiing was on the menu. Her resort is the Heavenly Ski Resort, and it is an amazing location. Heavenly closes around the end of April most years. Other resorts in the area offer more summer options. Next, we went to the nearby Palisades Tahoe Aerial Tram which is open even this time of year for sightseeing. This takes you up to 8,200 ft, which is lower than Heavenly but still gives you a sense of the feeling at altitude here. Next, we went to a local casino to meet some of her friends for some beer, drinks, and fun. I ultimately snuck away with her for a bit to talk and gamble, but we returned to her partying group. There are a ton of great restaurants and her group knew all the ones with great deals. I enjoyed buying drinks for her gang and hearing the stories of their snow season exploits and fun. No one asked the uncle to pay. I took advantage of the situation to spoil my niece and her friends some. They were doing what they loved, spending time together, and I was just enjoying the stories and laughs. Take your own ideal vacation to the Tahoe area just make sure to stay at this amazing resort for a great deal through Tzort.
