Day One Travel & Arrival

On a trip like this, my journey starts with my flight from my home in Virginia. Wisconsin is a good distance from Virginia, so a flight just makes the most sense. I love a car trip as much as anyone else, but anything over 12 hours these days and I look for alternative options. To drive to the location, would be over 15 hours and likely longer because of all the construction you would find along the route.

I was glad I was able to find a flight since the distance was also almost 1,000 miles. Even with a connecting flight, my total time getting to the area was less than 4 hours. There is a private airport almost at the resort, so that is a unique option if you are so inclined. I flew into Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and then drove my rental car a little over an hour to the resort itself.

When I arrived at the resort, I was a bit shocked and the size and scale of the facilities. This feels much like the best parts of a Great World Lodge. The inside and outside water park features generous-sized rooms and a great site location. The resort not only has these amazing water park features, but it also has 8 dining options on-site. So you could come here and do everything on-site if you like. This resort is midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, so I can see this as a great escape for folks from both those major cities and their surrounding suburbs.

This is a great location coming from anywhere but must be a great break for people nearby.

I had a 1 bedroom deluxe villa for my stay and it had everything you might want on a trip. They also have 2 bedroom lockout units available as well, which is a great option for families.

My room had a nice size bathtub with jets which I enjoy since I am a bigger person these days. It feels nice to relax and stretch out in a giant tub.

  • Coffee Maker
  • Dishwasher
  • Ice Maker

  • Refrigerator
  • Stove/Range

Then the resort itself offers all of these options.

Resort Amenities

  • Free WiFi
  • Outdoor Pools
  • Business Center
  • On-Site Restaurants
  • Fitness Center

The resort has many features and amenities. It even has a Tesla charging station. One of those destination units.

This resort has so many dining options that I figured I would just hit them up during my stay and only stock the fridge with some drinks and snacks, instead of planning out a meal or more than well.

Once I get sorted, I often like to tour the resort on the first day. Get to know where the restaurants are, the pools are, and so on. So, here I went on a multi-building tour and found 5 restaurants and many pools. It is a very nice setup.

I landed last for dinner at the Ristorantè Brissago® on site here. It was a little pricy but worth it to not have to get in the car and go anywhere. Also, the food is great. I enjoyed the pasta dish with lobster and it was a good meal. I did not pair it with wine but instead waited for a few drinks in the room for the alcohol. Not being cheap, just enjoyed water with the meal to cleanse the palate.

The space was much larger than I had anticipated! The kitchen had plenty of supplies available! I had enough counter space to make homemade pasta! The bed was nice a large. I think the best part about the hotel was the bathroom. Two separate rooms!

Beautiful resort with plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
Came back for another visit and it’s just as beautiful, but like most places seems to be struggling with staffing, making some areas unavailable and having fewer food/menu choices.

Beautiful rooms! We had a wonderful time there! Wish we could have stayed longer.

This resort has everything for an amazing family vacation. I am so happy we tried this property. The golf courses are great. There are walking trails, playgrounds, swimming, and so much to do! And downtown by the water is another experience. We will be back!

It good looking and we’ll maintain the property, in a good location. Everything that we needed was stocked in the unit and one bedroom deluxe was spacious and well appointed. Had a good time and most things to do were 5-10 mins away. The golf course is beautiful.

Stayed in the 2 bedroom locked and it was such a treat. Very spacious and modern. I love having a washer/dryer in both units.

Great accommodations. Lots of rooms and lots of amenities. To great associated golf courses. Best Piggly Wiggly I have ever seen close by. Attached to the spectacular Grand Geneva Resort. One bedroom is deluxe and two bedrooms include a washer and dryer. Great handicap accessible shower in one bedroom deluxe and two bedrooms.

Day Two Water Park Fun

Now water parks these days are not what they once were for me. Now it is more about just calmly riding on the lazy river or going into a wave pool for a bit. I was here in May, so both pools inside and outside were options. But for my southern east coast, the temperature gauge inside was still where it was at. But if you are from the area, 60+ likely feels like summer to you this far north.

Timber Ridge Lodge is a tram ride from the main resort and easy to get to and enjoy. It has 50,000 square feet of indoor pools, slides, and much more. After playing around for a while, I stopped and went to their onsite BBQ restaurant for some lunch. It was good and worth adding to your list of locations to check out for a meal.

The pools and the entire area are very kid-focused and friendly. They even have characters for the young kids to interact with.

I could have spent the whole day in the temperature there, but I was there solo, and even though I kept myself entertained, I did feel a bit like a fish out of water not having nieces or nephews with me. It was great to hear kids laugh and play having moments without their cellphones. But when you are not a father, there is only so much of that you can take before the sound is too much unless you are watching after your own younger ones. Or family.

But in the least creepy way possible, it was just nice to see people having fun after the pandemic shut down, or lockdowns. I pray we do not go through something like that again while I am around. People need to feel safe to travel and move around.

Day Three Seeing the Area

I wanted to take some of this country in. I love the resort and could just have parked myself there the entire time. But I have never been to this part of the country. I have flown into Chicago and stayed, but I have not been north of the city at all. I wanted to drive around for a few hours and see some of the local history and locations.

When you want to learn more about an area, find its local museum so that is what I did. It is a small museum and opens only on select days of the week and at times. Check the website for details. I can say that even having been loosely associated with a small town museum, this location had a sparse collection. But the volunteers were nice and shared with me a ton of local history orally. That was worth the $9 ticket all by itself.

The area has one of those magic performers who is like a Vegas elite kind of show performer. I chose to go because these are often good enough to be fun, and sometimes fun and funny as well.

They do the shows on the weekends most of the year and in May they had 2 shows on Saturday with the first show at 5 PM. So, before heading to the show, I had time to check out the lake and see the local lakefront beach. Riviera Beach looks like an old-school beach. Small but comfortable and kept nice by the community. A great option if you are in a part of the country so far from the ocean or gulf.

I am certain hundreds of thousands of visitors have enjoyed this beach over the years.

Do you want to get away from the hustle of day-to-day? If so, consider this world-class resort and the lake area too.
