Players Club Hilton Head resort is a fun location in one of the top resort areas on the East Coast. This resort is an older location that has charm and a great location. A quick walk to the beach, and a short drive to many of Hilton Head Island’s top locations.

Day One Arrival at Players Club
I had driven in and since it was just after my most recent trip to Myrtle Beach, it was already striking the difference between the two locations. I think you go to Myrtle Beach when you want to have tons of options available. You go to Hilton Head when you want to relax and really just enjoy the beach and the calm pace of Hilton Head.
The resort itself has many of the amenities you come to expect from the Blue-Green family of resorts.

I checked in and found that my one-bedroom villa was 650 square feet, so it was a nice size. I noted everything was and looked maintained. The resort and room were kept in good condition, but if you are a heavy traveler, you may notice that things seemed stuck with the design and décor. For me, this was a plus. I like things that looked human and lived in. For the picky traveler, it may be something they notice.
I like places to be clean and inviting more than I do modern and overdone. This was clean and had its own charm. It felt like you were going to stay with family at their cottage more than a traditional resort, and I liked it. That being said, if your significant other expects to stay in a 5-star resort luxury and does not adapt to more of a beach vibe, you might want to pick another location. For me, it was perfect, especially for Hilton Head, which has a slower feel to it than Myrtle Beach.
After settling in, I wanted to go grab some groceries because I intended to take advantage of the home-like feel of the place and cook breakfast at least once while I was there. Hilton’s head has a Harris Teeter, Kroger, and a Piggly Wiggly grocery store. So, you can truly pick the level of the type of store you like. Kroger was where I went first because I do like prepared foods. Then I went to the Piggly Wiggly because that chain of grocery stores, I think, carries more local fresh meats. (I could be wrong it might be a perception thing).
I have all the items I could want for breakfast and even grabbed a dinner for tonight that looked good at Kroger. While at the Piggly Wiggly, I broke down and even grabbed some of Mike’s Hard Lemonades, and some snacks too.
Then I stopped by the local liquor store. I only got a small pint, but I wanted to check it out. In Virginia, we have state-run stores for alcohol sales, but in South Carolina, you have little family-run locations like this. On some level, it is interesting to see the difference. Also, the prices are cheaper here. Note to self-come back on your way home.
Well after the shopping I was almost ready to tuck myself into the resort for a few days and just really chill out and relax. I did not even have to go anywhere for a day or two if I did not want to. I was set up well with food and drinks.
I went ahead and heated my dinner in the microwave, and washed it down with a couple of Mike’s bests.
Day Two at the Players Club
If you are wondering why this resort is called, the players’ club, it is likely because Hilton Head is thought to have some of the best golf courses around. I think the islands alone have 18 golf courses. If you are a golfer, bring your clubs, this is the place for you.
I would thrill you with my thoughts on the golf courses here, but I am not a player. I am much more the putt-putt, mini golf, or Top Flight Golf kind of guy. I do not know why, but I just never fell in love with the game. I have had great access to the sport over the years with access to great gold courses through my family, and even business connections. But I just never got into it. I was more likely to be found sailing than playing golf when I was younger. Then later in life, the bug just never bit me.
There are a ton of courses on the island. Most of them have stellar reputations and several I have heard about if not played at.
Harbour Town
Heron Point
Robert Trent Jones
The Country Club
These are just a few worth mentioning. If you belong to a home country club, you may qualify for benefits at The Country Club here on Hilton Head Island. So that is worth checking on with a call or visit to the website.
Again remember there are 18 golf courses just on the island alone so this is Golfer Heaven.
Full confession even though I do not care for golf, I have always felt a little weird not playing more golf. But I guess I am not a very social person on some level and you need to play with a regular group of folks to really get into the game. At least that is my take on it.
If you love golf though, this is the spot for you. One could make a day of it just driving to and around these amazing-looking courses. They sure are scenic and in a great location. I also imagine that the wind from the ocean makes some of these courses more challenging on windy days.
Instead of golf, I focused my mind on relaxation. I did something I do not often do, and I booked a massage. Always a great choice to spoil yourself, and this location was top-notch. Sometimes you go into a massage place and get a vibe of “oops I chose the wrong place” but this was upscale and nice. They also offered packages for men that were solid.
I could see if I was a golfer like many of my friends that this would be a good call after 18 holes.
After the massage, it was time for a meal. I went to a place called Big Bamboo. Their lunch menu had some great deals on it and I chose the Mahi Key West Tacos, which were outstanding. I added their sweet potato fries and was glad I did.
After lunch, I wanted to check out the beach. I drove back to the resort, then just walked to the beach, since it was so close. It was like 6 blocks away or so. Hilton Head has some great beaches or rather one long beach and a bunch of semi-private access to it. There is a beach park down from the resort which is nice but I did not feel like walking down that far so I just worked my way into the beach access of a local hotel on the beach. I have found in life you can go almost anywhere you want to if you carry yourself well and look the part.
I spent a few hours on the beach, then made my way back to the resort. It was a nice afternoon.
Day Three begins at Players Club
Today I was going to visit some more touristy locations in Hilton Head. There are not many, this is a resort island dedicated to golf and the beach but there are some neat spots. I chose to head out on a boat for the day. I considered renting one because I am good around the water, but instead opted to just go on a boat to Savanah and spend some time around town. This is something that the lady in your life would likely love. There is a ton of shopping right by where the boat docks.
Every once in a great while I will feel like piddling around stores and shopping. I do this when traveling once every couple of years. Maybe it is my way of dealing with missing trips with family when I was young and being dragged along on the shopping trip with the ladies in the family. I do not know. But this was a fun excursion. It was nice to go on the boat and then have 4 hours to knock around town before heading back. The weather was perfect and the inner coastal waterway is almost always calm.
The shops have a lot of the normal gift items you see in vacation towns, but they are nicer quality overall, and the stores are much nicer. Careful guys, you may want to give the ladies cash, unless you are comfortable with a heavy series of credit card charges. I provided the links to a few local spots so you can get the feeling of the stores ahead of time.
After returning from the boat ride and shopping trip, I was hungry and went to the Tiki Hut. The menu was solid and had some real favorites of mine, so this made choosing what to eat difficultly. I settled on 1/2lb of coconut shrimp and a flounder sandwich. I was glad I did because the flounder was fresh and tasted great. Fresh Flounder is almost like a different food group. Something happens when you freeze fish that you can never undo.
After lunch, I was back to the resort for my last dinner there and sometimes just enjoying the spot. The resort had an old-school indoor pool that was great, and almost no one was around. So, I had it all to myself. That was awesome.
