Day One Arrival at Club Wyndham Westwinds

I arrived fresh since we were staying the last few days at the cottages and were just moving locations and staying in Myrtle Beach. Since I was pulling double duty of vacationer and writer for TZort the shift to the second resort made sense. Have more fun in the sun and more time with my guest on the vacation together.

Club Wyndham Westwinds

Was a great laid-out resort. One that I think defines a great condo-like experience as a resort. The one- or two-bedroom units have all the comforts of a home, then the amazing beachfront views you want.

I managed to get a two-bedroom unit for this part of the trip, which was nice.

Here are the details from the website.

If you are traveling with someone you are friends with or even are dating, but you are not in a long-term relationship yet. It is very nice to have separate bathrooms and the option of separate bedrooms. It is not even about being old-fashioned it is about privacy for intimate moments and space. There is not a soul alive who wants to have a bathroom moment and then have someone have to follow you. Enough said.

This resort is right on the beach. Even if you were not able to book an ocean-view room, you will still be able to enjoy the oceanfront like a few other locations or resorts on the strip. The pools and dining rooms feel as though they are right on the sand. Check out the photos on the website to see for yourself. That to me makes this resort very special.

When we toured the resort after checking in, I also loved the fact that the pool was heated and allowed you to swim outside from inside the pool. As a kid, I would have loved that. Likely swimming back and forth from inside to outside as often as I could.

Since we had just left our prior resort earlier in the day, we were already having fun on day one at this resort. This morning after checking out of the cottages we went to the beach and really just enjoyed the morning and early afternoon.

We went to lunch at Hamburger Joes which was a nice local spot. I love Jonny Rockets which is a chain in the area but I also want to support the little guy when I eat out. It makes me feel that the food is more unique at a local spot as well. Sometimes I get it: the national chain is something you go to so you know what you are getting and what to expect. There are times when that is the thing to do as well.

Joe’s was a neat spot with a simple menu with great burgers. They are griddle cooked as you see at a Five Guys or a great dinner. Really other than grilling them yourself, how the best burgers are cooked at restaurants in my mind, anyway.

For the North Myrtle Beach location, you can download a menu with their prices which is just good to do to choose ahead of time and budget if you are feeding a big family. The pricing is affordable, a cheeseburger is $4.35 a steal for a good burger these days.

After check-in and getting settled at the new digs, we headed for dinner and entertainment at a chain the House of Blues. You can view their local Myrtle Beach menu here. I am a sucker for the smokehouse plater and fresh corn on the cob and cornbread. You get to sample a number of good meats, and they all go well with beer.

As a venue, the House of Blues does a good job booking local talent that is 80% music and 20% comedy or so each month. We were there on a comedy night, which was awesome to lighten the mood and have fun.

Day Two at Club Wyndham Westwinds

We did not make it up for the sunrise today but were up at a decent hour. Moving a little slow after a fun night, I chose to just head out for breakfast and make things easy today. We went to Blueberry’s Grill for breakfast today and got there a little after 9 AM.

I had the traditional, and she picked the blueberry muffins and eggs. Then we shared a stack of pancakes almost as an afterthought because they smelled so good coming out of their kitchen.

This is a great spot for breakfast. Even the kids will love it because of all the special options they have for pancakes, French toast, or waffles with toppings and sides. If you are a breakfast fan, this will make you feel like you died and woke up in breakfast heaven.

Check out their large menu and see for yourself.

After a great start to the day with breakfast, we went back to the beach until time for dinner where we went to Hook and Barrel. We went a little early because we were going to the baseball game tonight.

I hit them up for half a pound of steamed shrimp from the happy hour menu, and a few cold beers. I was saving room for a dog and some peanuts at the game. I am such a touristy fan type that I love doing the typical things like getting a hot dog and peanuts at the game. She had a seared tuna salad that looks good. They had a Caesar on the menu that when it was served to a table near me looked like the real deal as well.

I have written about the local baseball team, the Pelicans, and the stadium before. It is one of the nicest minor league teams and locations to go see live. The season runs May through September and there was a game today so we decided to go and enjoy a game while we were here. My friend said she had not been to a game before life and since she was from the Hampton Roads area, I was a little shocked since we have 2 local teams, and the Tide Stadium in Norfolk is so popular. But hey I love experiencing new things with people for the first time. It is like you get to experience everything through their eyes. Then you also have a lot to talk about since you can talk about some things of interest about the place to them.

Sunday home games started at 6:05 PM and during the rest of the week at 7:05 PM. So as night games you started with the sun and left the park in the dark with the great lights of the stadium. Baseball games can go on longer, but the average game is likely around 3 hours. So, expect to be leaving after 10 PM if you attend a game. It is not an issue but good to consider if you have young ones with you.

The game was fun, and it had all the elements of a good live game. I enjoyed my hot dog and peanuts as well as a few cold beers, and I shared the peanuts.

Day Three at the resort and our 5th day at Myrtle Beach on this trip

I was having a great time and was thinking about spending part of the day looking at some real estate. I truly love this area that much. I could see myself moving here one day.

A quick look on Zillow or Realtor online and you can fall for this idea on a trip too. For the idea of a nice condo with no yard worries and a view of the ocean was speaking to me. If I could get even something older that was in a location like our room at the resort right now, it would be hard to turn down.

Currently, I live in an older neighborhood in a duplex with a large backyard. It is nice but more to mess with and more than I need as a single guy. This may turn out to be an expensive trip if I end up getting a condo lol.

We called a local relator that specialized in waterfront and water-view condos. Then we even went and looked at a few properties. I think one of the reasons I love traveling and staying at these resorts through TZort so much is I really enjoy seeing different properties. I will often stop when I have time and visit an open house just to look around and see what I like, and what I could do without.

This morning was a time of temptation. The idea of having my own beachfront place would be a dream fulfilled that even my father would have liked years ago. I ultimately would not buy one on this trip, but it is something to consider in the next year or so, who knows maybe I will move from Virginia to South Carolina.

After looking and daydreaming about a beachfront place, I wanted to go back to the beach for the rest of the day. I love a lot of things about this area, but the beach has to be the primary draw for me every time. Today I wanted to go into the ocean and play for a few hours. Just slam into the waves and surf like I did when I was young.

It did not take less than two hours and I was done. I needed to come out of the water dry off and lay down a bit. Today was going to be our drive back, and while it is not a long one. I know I did not want to get too tired before the drive back.

This has been a week of memories for both myself and my guest. I hope these are good times we can look back on for years to come.

If you want a great vacation for yourself, consider Myrtle Beach, and whatever you do book through TZort.
