Day One Travel and Arrival

Going to Utah for me starts with a flight from my home on the East Coast. The flight was under 7 hours and a straight connection from my airport in Norfolk, Virginia. My flight came into Salt Lake Airport and then I rented a car and drove to the resort, which was about a 40-minute drive.

The Park City area is popular for skiing. Each year from December to April, the Winter Season brings in skiers from around the country.

Once I drove to the resort, checking in was very easy and fast.

The resort offers many accommodation options, from simple rooms to suites that are 1-4 bedrooms in size. The 4 bedroom suites are giant at almost 2,500 sq ft. My 1 bedroom suite was very roomy as well at 880 sq ft.

One thing that remains a constant with Hilton Resorts is how well they are maintained. You can really count on them being clean and well-maintained no matter what resort you visit. I think that is why I really enjoy this brand. It is that consistency that makes you comfortable booking and staying at the Hilton resorts.

After checking in and touring the resort some, I was ready for dinner and looked in the area for some good dining options. Park City has more restaurants per square mile than any area I think I have stayed. These restaurants are used to serving large numbers of guests during the winter time rush and can really provide high-quality meals.

I was ready for some meat. I never quite understand why I wake up one day and just decide it is time for a steak or whatever I am in the mood for. But today I was thinking about a good filet and some kind of potato on the side. It is just what is called to me.

I found Butchers Chop House I started my meal with an appetizer because I was hungry after my flight and travel today. So I chose to try their Lobster Nachos. I have had seafood nachos before but these had real lobster as the meat on the nachos which was a first for me. A year ago in my 20s when I was living more hands-to-mouth (as many do in their 20s) I used to order a cheap version of seafood nachos from a local restaurant. Those had the fake crab on them, and as you might imagine, these nachos with the real lobster put those to shame.

After that, I had an 8oz filet and a fully loaded baked potato.

Not long after the meal, I was back at the resort for some sleep.

What to Do in Park City During Winter

Winter sports are great fun! You can ski or snowboard, or even go sledding. Snow is very cold, but you can stay warm by wearing layers. Ice scrapers are useful tools when driving in snowy weather.

Horse-drawn Sleighs

You’re not going to Grandma’s house. Uh, huh? The Snowed Inn Horse-Drawn Sleigh Company takes you directly up the mountain to an ice-covered lodge, where you can enjoy a hearty meal and live music.

Snowboarding is fun because you can sit down while riding. You can also go up the mountain without hurting yourself. And if you’re feeling bad about how much you’re hurting yourself, there are lifts to help you get back up again.

Tubing at Gorgoza park is an activity that involves riding a snowmobile while wearing snowmobile skids. You can go skiing or tubing at Gorgoza park. This is a great activity for people who love winter sports.

Winter is a great time to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Go skiing or snowboarding at a resort near you. Or go ice skating, sledding, or cross-country skiing. You’ll be glad you did!

I was in the area during the summer because I am not much of a skier. For whatever reason, it has not been on my list of favorite things. I have tried skiing a few times, but even growing up on the water (as an example) I have never water-skied. I think my brain just did not desire to go through the learning and falling process.

I preferred tubbing behind a boat and going downhill.

So when visiting the area, I chose summer as my target time to visit the area and learn about Park City.

What to Do in Park City During Summer

summer in Utah means outdoor activities. You can fly through the air on a zip line, ride your bike down a mountain, or even ski. All these activities are great ways to beat the heat.

There are many types of music. Some people listen to classical music. Others listen to rock or country music. People who enjoy listening to music go to concerts. Concerts are held in parks or in other places.

Farmer’s markets are fun places to go to buy fresh produce. There are many activities people can do while shopping in the market. People can enjoy the atmosphere, meet new friends, and learn about the farmers who grow the food. In addition to buying fresh fruits and vegetables, people can also take part in other activities such as swimming, boating, and tubing.

Paddle boarding at Jordanelle state park mountain biking. Ride hundreds of miles of cross-country trails or swap your two skis for two fat wheels at resorts where ski runs turn into rideable downhill bike trails in the summers. That ought to keep your adrenal glands primed till winter.

Feeling fishy?

The nearby rivers are packed to the gill’s with trout and the park city is full of fly-fishing outfitters who can imagine nothing better than waking up at dawn and walking to a perfect river and fishing for fresh catch.

I used to go to Northern Virginia near Madison County when they release the fish from the hatcheries to start the official fishing season. The little rivers and brooks there are lovely but pale in comparison to this fishing.

Since I was in the area outside of ski season, I focused on some of the summer things that are unique to the area. I headed for Rockport State Park.

Rockport State Park

Rockport State Park is dedicated to offering many recreational opportunities to anyone and everyone. The launch ramp on the east side of the reservoir is a great place to launch a boat. Rockport Reservoir has good fishing for both trout and bass, and in the summer it is a busy lake with many people tubing, waterskiing, and wakeboarding. There are also over a hundred campsites available for camping year-round.

It opened to the public as a state park in 1966.
Park Elevation: 6,000 feet
Park Acreage: 770
Surface Water Acreage: 1,080

Many species of animals also call Rockport home, including mule deer, chipmunks, jackrabbits, cottontails, yellowbelly marmots, badgers, raccoons, weasels, foxes, and Uinta ground squirrels. Elk, moose, coyotes, bobcats, and cougars live in the area, but they saw.

I chose this park because I wanted to spend some time reconnecting with nature. Park Hours: 6:00 am – 10:00 pm.

Before heading to the park for some water fun and time walking around the area, I wanted some breakfast, so I headed to Five5eeds where I had a big breakfast and got fueled up for the day.

I think some of the healthy eating in the area comes not only from the active outdoor customers the area attracts but also from the altitude. If you eat as you do at a lower altitude here, you will feel bloated and lower on energy. Eating clean and healthy helps your body contend with the altitude.

After time at Rockport Park, I headed for OP Rockwell a fun speakeasy-themed pub or bar that offers great drinks and live music. This location is open Thursday–Saturday only 5 PM-1 AM.

Day Three More to See

Pamper my day started with a visit to one of many SPAs in the area. Now and Zen SPA grabbed me with the fun name. I opted for a Thai massage and that was the best hour of the trip. Not that this trip has not been fun but because the massage was perfect.

During the summer, Deer Valley has a music festival for about a month each year. This is the home of the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera. Today I am going for a live performance. Live music is always best, but for classical and Opera there is no second best.
