Club Wyndham Shawnee Village

Club Wyndham Shawnee Village

Club Wyndham Shawnee Village is located in Shawnee-on-Delaware, PA. The address of the resort is 5255 Buttermilk Falls Road Shawnee-on-Delaware, PA 18356. Even the address sounds like a peaceful resort.

This is the area of PA referred to as the Poconos. This historic area has a rich past that has focused on Hospitality for over 100 years. In other parts of the world that is not an impressive period, but here it is a great history. After World War II the area became known as a top entertainment and honeymoon spot.

The Poconos had the first snow-blowing equipment in the world and also held the patent for many years starting in 1950. The area saw the rise and later closing of some of the nation’s largest resorts. Over the years the Poconos has reinvented itself several times. Today I head towards this historic location to see the Poconos myself firsthand.

Day One Arrival at Club Wyndham Shawnee Village

The drive up from Virginia was not bad. If you take the older route 13 up the Eastern Shore of Virginia and Maryland the entire trip is just over 6 hours. It is a bit of a boring drive and you should use cruise control because some of the small towns on the way pay their light bills with traffic tickets.

Check-in here was a breeze, and the staff was helpful in getting you set up and sorted quickly. I was going to be staying in a one-bedroom suite, which was almost 1,000 square feet in size. It really reads like a complete list for any active traveler, especially a family. Here the resort offers 1-2 and even 4-bedroom units for travelers. I imagine this would be an incredible site for a large family reunion. Club Wyndham Shawnee Village is a complete resort in every sense of the word.

The unit had everything you could want to include:

The Wi-Fi here was better than I expected for a site that is in the mountains. This was a plus for all the online things I have to do for my business.

After my drive and checking in, I wanted to go do some local grocery shopping to stock up and find something local to eat while I was out. It would have made more sense to do those things headed to the resort, but I often like to wait to get settled first.

The town of Stroudsburg is nearby and has a grocery store, super Walmart, and so on. I was able to stock up easily enough. Then I also went to the Landmark Restaurant for dinner. This looked like a good place for breakfast too one day while I was in town. This trip I built my own bigger and was happy with the result. It was fast and good, as well as cheap.

I went back to the resort to get things put away and chill, then I went to see some live music and then hit the sauna before bed.

Day Two at Club Wyndham Shawnee Village

The morning started nice and easy. I woke up around 9 AM and took a nice long hot shower, then dressed to face the day.

I chose the local Arlington Diner for breakfast. It was not far away from the resort and I had looked at the breakfast menu online. I had a chili omelet, which one should only eat if he knows he will be alone for the day. It was great, but I was certain of a later gastrointestinal certainty.

After breakfast, I stopped at the Pocono Snake and Animal farm. A local small spot, but one that had nice people, and its own charm. Sometimes when I see that great little places like this do not have an active website, I want to just offer to design one for free. I might have had I had my laptop with me. Instead, I handed them a business card and said if they wanted one, I will give them the deal of a lifetime.

I spent an hour or so at the small location and enjoyed my time there. Again, great caring people run this small petting zoo. The option to feed the animals would be great fun for kids. This would be a neat little spot for grandkids or younger kids to enjoy. It was also close to Club Wyndham Shawnee Village and easy to find which is certainly a plus. It is strange when I travel now with a cell phone all the time. I kind of miss using a map, but with a modern smartphone and GPS if you have a signal you can find just about anything.

The resort has so much to offer that I headed back with my mindset for a visit to the indoor heated pool, and then some lunch with items I grabbed from the local Walmart the day before.

I spent hours at the pool and then went out to the mini-golf and found a young kid who was playing solo and asked if he wanted to play a round and keep score. Not because I wanted to clobber the kid in mini-golf, but because when I was a young man occasionally someone would invite me to a game when I was playing solo and I was always grateful for the competition and attention.

These days though, you have to be very careful not to come off as a creep being an older single male. The world is just weird like that. I think as long as you are aware of it and are down to earth then the majority of the time people just look on and say “look at the giant Santa playing, isn’t that funny”. I often have a beard during the fall and winter to keep my face warm. These days it comes in full, but almost all grey or white. When combined with my round figure, I think the Santa assessment is fairly accurate.

After swimming, lunch, mini-golf, and a nap, it was either head out for dinner or go check on the elves (Santa Joke). I headed back towards town for some eats and treats.

I found a local restaurant called the Thai Orchid which was a hole in the wall of a place, but the food was insanely good. I mean I have eaten at some great Asian restaurants, but for Thai food, this tiny little place was one of the best I have ever eaten at. Hands down. The restaurant is part of a local family’s dominance in the restaurant industry in this little area.

On Trip Advisor this little place rates 2nd out of 107 places to eat. It is just that good. I would add this to a list of little spots like this from all my travels I wish I could put it all in one town to retire in. With affordable (cheap even) food with great taste, this place would make my retirement dream town list.

Day Three Poconos Time

I get that my traveling alone to the Poconos is a little odd. This is either a well-known lover’s destination or a family destination. It is not a single destination or party city.

I, however, love small-town things, and old-school things, so this location hit several of the must-haves on my vacation spot list. There is live entertainment in the area, so tonight on my last night at the resort I chose to go see some comedians at the Cove entertainment properties. This one site has several venues with live entertainment at one or more of the properties every night throughout most of the year.

The comedian was very funny, and the club was in a nice location. I think the next time I am in the Poconos I will check out the casino in the area, and the entertainment at the casino as well.

I can see the draw to the Poconos now. Even without the vaudeville acts entertainment, and fun is still something everyone can get into. The towns and natural setting add value as well. It also is nice to find a place to vacation where it does not have to cost an arm and leg to eat out, or to visit the local spots of interest.

From a cost perspective, everything here (compared to trending resorts) seems to be on a half-off sale. After just recently staying in New York City, and before that Chicago I can tell you it was a welcome change of pace and expense. Club Wyndham Shawnee Village offers exceptional value and the surrounding towns and areas of interest in the Poconos are worth a visit.

For a family who already has the expense of feeding and entertaining many, this area may be a great choice. Especially when you travel with TZort and save on the resort as well.
